FAQs

Our latest Frequently Asked Questions as at September2026.

1.

What is a Total Wealth Planner?

A Total Wealth Planner is an agency-restoration practitioner competent in combining human expertise, artificial intelligence and whole-person planning.

They help people understand their position, organise complexity, explore choices and make decisions they can genuinely own.

Their work is not confined to investments or people with investable assets. It can involve work, businesses, property, pensions, relationships, responsibilities, health, time, purpose, community and financial resources.

The individual remains the principal.

The planner contributes expertise without taking ownership of the person’s information, plan or decisions.

2.

What is agency-led human–AI planning?

Agency means being able to understand, choose and act.

Agency-led human–AI planning uses technology to increase that capability rather than making the individual more dependent on either an institution or a professional.

Academy OS supports people continuously by helping them organise information, maintain a living plan, explore possibilities and prepare better questions.

The Total Wealth Planner adds something different: experience, challenge, context and care when human involvement would improve the quality of the decision.

The model is:

Continuous client agency with episodic human expertise.

3.

What does the client operate for themselves?

The client owns and operates their personal planning system.

They can use Academy OS to:

• organise information about their life and resources;

• clarify goals and priorities;

• maintain their Total Wealth Plan;

• explore options and possible consequences;

• record decisions and assumptions;

• prepare for meetings with specialists; and

• review the plan as circumstances change.

This does not mean people must handle everything alone.

It means support begins from the assumption that the individual remains capable and in control.

The planner is no longer the client’s operating system.

The planner helps the client operate one.

4.

When does a Total Wealth Planner become involved?

Human expertise is most valuable when the situation involves complexity, uncertainty, emotional pressure, conflicting evidence or significant change.

This might include:

• retirement;

• divorce or bereavement;

• redundancy or career change;

• starting, growing or leaving a business;

• property decisions;

• inheritance and intergenerational planning;

• later-life decisions;

• rebuilding after financial harm; or

• choices involving several competing priorities.

The planner’s involvement should be proportionate to the need.

Some people may need one focused session. Others may benefit from support through a longer transition. The relationship does not have to become permanent for the expertise to be valuable.

5.

How do Total Wealth Planners earn income?

Total Wealth Planners are paid directly for planning, education, structured thinking, implementation support and access to experienced judgement.

Services may include:

• one-off planning projects;

• Academy OS onboarding and implementation;

• life-transition planning;

• cash-flow and scenario modelling;

• human-capital planning;

• group programmes and workshops;

• employer-funded financial wellbeing services;

• episodic Second Brain support; and

• professional retainers based on access rather than assets.

The commercial model rewards the planner for increasing client capability—not for controlling information, distributing products or accumulating assets under management.

6.

Is Total Wealth Planning regulated financial advice?

No.

Total Wealth Planning does not recommend, arrange or sell regulated financial products. It does not manage investments or control client money.

It provides whole-person planning, education, structured thinking and decision support.

Where regulated investment advice, legal advice, tax advice or another specialist intervention is required, the individual engages an appropriately qualified professional.

The Total Wealth Planner can help the person recognise the need, organise relevant information and prepare useful questions without taking over the specialist’s role.

This is not regulated retail advice delivered with limited exposure.

It is a different professional activity, operating outside the FCA perimeter by design.

7.

What qualifications do I need?

Academy OS Foundations is available to people who want to understand the methodology and explore the professional model.

Total Wealth Planner accreditation requires a QCA Level 4—or equivalent—financial services qualification.

This entry requirement provides a foundation of professional and technical knowledge. The accreditation programme then develops and assesses the additional competence required for agency-led human–AI planning.

If you are unsure whether your qualifications are equivalent, contact the Academy before applying.

8.

How does the accreditation pathway work?

The professional journey has three connected stages.

Academy OS Foundations develops understanding of Total Wealth Planning, the GAME Plan™ methodology and the Academy OS operating model.

The live Total Wealth Planner accreditation cohort develops and assesses applied professional competence. Candidates practise combining whole-person planning, responsible use of artificial intelligence and proportionate human judgement.

The Practice Management Circle provides continuing professional development, peer learning and support for putting the model into practice.

Foundations develops understanding.

The cohort develops and assesses competence.

The Circle supports continuing application.

9.

Do I need to leave my existing role or advice business immediately?

No.

For many professionals, transition is best approached deliberately.

You may begin by learning the methodology, identifying which parts of your current proposition build capability and testing where Academy OS could give clients greater ownership.

If you currently provide regulated advice, you can examine separately:

• planning;

• regulated recommendation;

• product implementation;

• investment management; and

• continuing client support.

These activities do not have to remain bundled together.

The purpose is not to abandon useful expertise. It is to determine where that expertise adds genuine value and how it can be delivered without creating unnecessary dependency.

10.

Will artificial intelligence replace the planner?

Artificial intelligence will replace some tasks previously performed by planners.

It can already explain concepts, organise information, generate scenarios and support routine analysis. The economic value of simply possessing information is therefore declining.

But AI can also misunderstand context, reproduce hidden assumptions and communicate uncertain answers with unwarranted confidence.

The real value of a modern planner is not holding information that clients cannot access.

It is helping people:

• see the whole system;

• test assumptions and AI-generated answers;

• organise complexity;

• navigate change;

• avoid costly mistakes;

• make decisions with confidence; and

• recognise when specialist expertise is genuinely needed.

That is the role of a Total Wealth Planner™.
